Houston Municipal Court Records Search

Houston Municipal Court records are accessible through the following means:

Online Access

The Houston Municipal Court does not have a conventional online search portal where individuals can quickly search and access case information. However, requests for court records can be submitted online via the Houston Public Information Request Center. While individuals do not have instant access to court records, they are able to obtain documents that naturally would not be available on a conventional case search portal.

In-Person Access

Members of the public can also visit the Houston Municipal Court to access court records. Unlike online access, in-person researchers can view case documents without requesting and paying for copies. To access a court record, individuals have to step into the Clerk of Court's Office and provide staff with all known details of the case for a search to be run. After the record is found, the requester may then choose to inspect the record or obtain copies.

Mail and Phone Requests

Individuals who do not want to submit a request using the online portal or visit in person may submit their application by mail to the Clerk of Courts Office. Mail requests involve writing a letter that clearly states the defendant's name (and date of birth if known), the case number, and the type of copies needed (regular or certified). Requesters should also mail a self-addressed, stamped envelope and a check or money order payment along with the request.

Search by Name or Case Number

The primary ways the Houston Municipal Court conducts searches for court records are by name or case number. Individuals submitting a request online, in person, or by mail generally have to provide at least one of these parameters for the clerk to receive and process the request. Those requesting through the Houston Public Information Request Center have to create an account online before they are able to submit any requests. Having an account ensures that individuals can track the progress of their request.
